Wow. It was one of those mornings where everything goes right. Peacock and large mouth bass chasing shad on the surface. The water boiling.
One of those dream days. WOW

Hay, I just calls 'um likes I hears 'um!

First a young man pulls his boat up to the ramp and starts telling a wild story about busting schools of peacock bass from around Paper Bark down to County Yard. "What about Boy Scout Island?" asks I. "No" says he, "More up this way". Wild tales of the fish staying on the surface for over a minute at a time. Casting to fish right next to the boat. Bait fish jumping out of the water. Action, action, action.

He said Chris was catching like crazy too. (It's always nice when everyone is catching fish). Sure enough, about a 1/2 hour later, Chris came back to the dock. The first thing they said was: "Lucky Day".

And everyone was all......

Hi Stan, I'm the guy you were talking to at the boat ramp. Thanks for all the tips...wondering what size worm hooks you use for the Senko and is there a place I can purchase them locally? Thanks again...see you soon in the water. KB

With the little 2 inch Senkos I use a wide gap worm hook.
Size 4, 2, and 1/0. The Senko is small and we are also
only using 4# test spinning tackle. I'm not sure if anyone sells worm hooks locally. I mail order all mine.

Instead of a lead worm weight I use a plastic bead.
The bead helps the worm slide over grass and twigs easier.
I also fish it right at the surface so I don't want the weight.

We rig it Texas Rig style to make it weedless.

Thanks! Are you able to share where you order from? I've checked online and can only find the offset worm hook; is that right or does it need to be straight? Also having a hard time finding 4 size.

I was looking on BasPro last night. The "BassPro" hooks are cheaper.
No I don't use the offset hooks. You want the worm or Senko to be in a straight line so it won't spin and twist your line.

I noticed that size 1 was the smallest they offered. You might try calling by phone and asking for other sizes... or going to the web site of the hook manufacturer and buying direct from the factory.

There are other brands of hooks that are very good... I look for cost because we go through a lot of hooks.

I know this sounds strange and way to simple, but the way we fish it is to cast out and raise the rod tip... reel slow and steady... just fast enough to leave a "V" Wake at the surface of the water. (ever notice after the shad are scattered they swim at the surface leaving a "V" Wake?)

Another thing... when the peacock bass strikes the lure... DO NOT set the hook. Just keep reeling, nice and steady. The fish will set the hook for you.
If you strike and miss, the lure will fly out of the water and you won't get that second chance at the fish, or several fish, that are chasing your lure.
