Monday, 5 Mar.
Had a nice visit with Clayton Yee. (Nervous Water fly shop) He said that recent rains have the lake almost back to normal levels. Read a 10 to 12 foot rise. Water is back up and in the grass again. That will make it tough on shore fishermen for a while.

When I ask about the peacock bass he said they were "on and off" all day. "We saw lots of fish all over the place all day. You could cast at fish over and over and they ignored you..... then for no reason at all it was like flipping a switch and the fish started hitting anything you used." After some wild action they would just stop feeding. You just had to be there when they turned on.

There were reports of peacock bass starting to spawn in the Morgans Pt. area last week, but then with the water level rising so much Clay was unable to find anything.

He was excited that the red devils were becoming more aggressive and were taking small wet flys and streamers all day.
"Why let the truth stand in the way of a good fish story?"

Thanks for the report, Stan. I've been busy with home improvement and haven't been to the lake in a few months, so it's good to hear that the lake level is back up in the grass. As a shoreline guy, I actually prefer the high water over low water - it makes the shoreline tucs easier to access and find (they're under the grass). During low water, we have to negotiate steep slippery banks to try and pull shoreline tucs out of sunken treetops and ironwood root masses (if they're not out on the points). Gonna have to get out there before the water level starts to drop again.

Keep those lake conditions reports coming. Thanks again.
