As the water temperature inched up toward that magic 80 degree mark the action got better and better. We saw some spawning peacock bass (didn't catch them) but we saw them. We also saw a whole bunch more just swimming around... caught a few of them.
Just a very few were spawning. The lake has plenty of water to launch the boats... and the fishing is good.
My first fish of the day (peacock bass)... a perfect size for a Tenkara rod.
The Red Devils were spawning and pretty aggressive.
It's fun to spot the fish and cast the fly to it. The 4# test leader and light Tenkara flyrod are a perfect match for the red devils.
Would you look at the hump on this big male red devil.
I needed a little heavier leader to get some of these big one pounders out of the thick brush.
While I was playing with the RD, Shane was looking for big fish with his Buzz Bait.
Then this guy pulled up beside us and started fishing the water we had just worked over... within minutes he had this nice 3 1/2 pound peacock bass.
No sooner than his fish was released than this "just under 3" pounder hit.
Then before that fish could be released... this sold 3 pounder hit...
(Some people were catching more than others)
So we shook our heads and came home.

Valve fixed?
Hey stan! I return back next week from PA next week ready get back to making plastics!!!!!! It's been a good trip, attending seminars at Bass pro shop, and Cabelas, and local tackle shops... My lures are all gone, stole the show at cabelas from a smallmouth guide that I'm custom making a color for. Saw an intresting white color I got an Idea for Wilson. I was wondering if the valve was fixed yet or not? I had the same situation happen here in PA with the resivior behind my house. But it emptied completely!!!! 6lbs Largemouth's were dead on bank. EPA estimated 10,000 plus fish died. It was a big reason I moved to HI. Just wondering, hoping, the valve at Wilson gets fixed.... Sometimes letters to state reps, pitetions, and 100's of fisherman together make a difference. But I do understand things are different in hi. Just very concerned about Wilson. Also read into the cat fishing program at resivior4 nu, and that was also little depressing. Wondering if HI is doing away with freshwater fishing?

Don't know if the valve is fixed yet or not, (they were working on it this week) but it's closed enough so that the water level is holding pretty steady at a little over the 65 foot level.
At anything over 60 feet we can use the boat ramp.
Fishing has been good.
Don't know about the catfishing at Nuuan Res.... but I do know people are working on it.
As for trout fishing on Kauai... the state is back in the trout hatchery business. ( I hear that had a lot to do with 100s of fishermen geting involved... )

Thanks for pointing us in then right direction. We had a pretty good afternoon. I need to get a net man who can read the number on a tagged fish so we can record it...... before he throws it back in ! OOOPPPPPSSS ! And we need to get a tape measure so I can help with the study. Took a largemouth over to roadwarrior for him to measure. Had four tucs over 4lbs and three more in the threes. Had some major blow ups around the trees and shoreline. Good fun ! The clouds came in and the wind was still. Great day for fishing.

It is spring break for Luke so I took off work for a little afternoon of fishing with him. We worked the same areas as Sunday. The fish were not as active. Had a bunch of them chase the live bait out of the area. Some would actually just blow it away ! I swear ! Some just escort it away. Still, we managed to pick up some nice fish. Most in the 3 to 3 1/2 size. Nothing bigger. Got one nice 2 1/4 lmb. Lost a few to the trees as usual. Luke says we dont need to take pictures unless they are over 5 lbs. So.... no pics !
