Stuck valve

Postby Bozu » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:58 pm

Pray for Rain,

I heard that Dole Co. while making needed repairs on the valve that controls the water flow out of the lake had a bit of a problem. Something in the valve broke and needs fixing and/or replacement. Problem is the valve is stuck in the open position, with no way to close it. That's why the water has been dropping so quickly. Apparently, they don't have the parts on hand to fix this problem, and it might take awhile.

Hope they can fix it soon. Pray for rain to help offset the water we are losing through that open valve. At a half a foot drop per day like its been doing, it won't take long before the water will be too low to launch a boat. If it goes on for more than a week or ten days especially w/o any rain then we won't be doing much fishing from a boat. More importantly, I hope the lake doesn't go so low as to hurt the fish population.

That would be a good explanation of why the lake has been constantly dropping. I hope they can get it fixed and get the water level stable before the spawn...... :?

That would explain the drop in water level allright. I was going to ask Annette, but they are off till Tues..

Looks like you might get your wish for rain. Weather forecast shows showers for all of next week.

At our place it's a forecast of 30% rain tonight... Well it's been 30%ing really hard for the last 3 1/2 hours. If the same is going on above Wahiawa, the lake will be full tomorrow. Rain cell seems to be stalled over the island.

No rain as of yet in Wahiawa, if you can believe that!

lets hope its a rumor like them fixing the dam last year!! if not then pray for rain cause if it continues to drop at this rate, then next weekend will be at the end of the slats and after that forget it at all. beyond that i hope it dosent leave our little lake dry after its comeback. dunno bout you guys but im tired of fishing a diffrent lake every week with the water levels so up and down, every weekend its start over after you get an idea where to fish!! one week its dry land the next its 10ft underwater, then dry again!!!

It was raining pretty good in Makakilo this evening..so I'm sure it rained in Wahiwa. I'm not a fan of the constant changes either. There are so many places that I do well at when the water is up that are pretty much garbage when it's down. I do have two or three spots I can fish at any water level and get a couple....BUT I WILL NOT TELL YOU! :D

Even when the water level does come back up, it may take the fish a while to find the structure and get back to the good areas,.....

Spoke with Anette today.... You were right about one of the gates being stuck/broke in the open position. Water will continue to drop about .5 feet per day till it can be fixed. Will let everyone know of any up dates.

actually if the gauge is correct its nearly 3/4- 1 ft a day. guess since there is no consequential rain out in the near future its gonna be a real dry duck pond by the weekend. good thing we all got out and got a good fishing this weekend, cause launching in 2ft of muddy water off he ramp sucks
