Things I Learned.

I figured that site fishing for small barracuda would be
good fun on a Tenkara rod. So I tied up some flys and headed out...

Here are some things I've learned this weekend..........

Check the Tide Charts before you go fishing... High tide is good, at low tide there are not so many fish, and they spook easy.

A long shank bluegill hook with the material tied near the
bend is still not long enough to keep a barracuda from
biting through the leader.... 7 times.


A friend using streamer flies with 1 1/2 to 2 inches
of wire leader will not have the barracuda cut his
leader all the time.


Barracudas prefer white flys more than any other
color combinations we had. Especially if it had a
little red for the gills.


Even little barracuda have razor sharp teeth.

A BogaGrip and hemostats, or long nose pliers, are
essential when barracuda fishing.
A good first aid kit is nice too)


The Tenkara rod works very nicely for small barracuda.
(if your flys have a small trace of wire leader)

Oh yea..... "Monkey Fish" also hide in the mangrove bushes,
where they reach out and grab flys, then race back into
the thick branches and hide them.

The higher the trees, the more aggressive the Monkey Fish.

I've caught a lot of monkey fish while fly fishing. They pull real hard! But they get annoying as there is no way you can land them. All you can hope for is the hook falls out or the line snap. Otherwise, you'll waste your time fighting the monkey fish.

The taller the grass, the more the monkey fish too!
