A brief power outage today prompted the release of about 8,000 gallons of partially treated sewage from the Wahiawa Wastewater Treatment Plant into Lake Wilson, city officials said.
The outage, which happened at about 10:45 a.m., shut off the plant's ultraviolet disinfection unit, the final step in processing before the treated wastewater is routinely released into the lake.
City officials said warning signs were posted, water samples collected and the state Department of Health notified. The public is advised to avoid the affected waters.

OK gang, I spoke with a health dept guy about 2:30 pm today who was puting up signs..... and he said everything should be back to normal in 3 or 4 days. He suggested avoiding the area down stream from the sewage treatment plant (Boy Scout Island) to the spilway.
