The 3 P's !!
Patience and Persistence = Peacock Bass(3 p's). So I've been fishing the ramp steadily for the last few months, whipping and throwing live bait, with pretty good results. Today, i realized that the water levels seemed to be too low for that particular spot which i had counted on consistently this whole year. (directly in front of ramp) Went today and had live bait, whipping rig, and my white 1/8 oz roadrunner. Nothing for four hours straight. Seems that the "strike zone" is completely dried up. Tried my other spot down the road and lucked out, tons of action, tucs and largemouths bustin all over. Had strikes on live bait, whipping rig, and roadrunner... Sweet!! Here's a pic of one of the nicer Tuc's today.. Thanks

Tommy, nice to have met you today! I hope you were able to find Kaulana to trade lures. When you gonna take me out in your boat?
I think I might try to fish the same spot again tomorrow. Hopefully I can catch more bait if the lures aren't working. Otherwise I'll be knocking at your door to buy bait for my next outing! Side note: I hope those people fishing across from me get busted for keeping all their fish! They are there several times a week.

Nice to meet and exchange goodies with roadwarrior today. Had some really great action ! Hooked up with about a dozen different tucs ranging from 1-7 lbs. Only landed 3 of them though because they were all hiding under heavy cover (logs + branches) And when i say seven pounds, i might actually be underestimating the guy, he was the biggest one i've seen to date. All were caught on live bait, only two chases with bubble rig. Lost at least 10 hooks to fish wrapping me up around the woodwork. I even had a real close encounter with a couple tucs today (I fell in off of a steep bank) Didn't discourage me at all though, still stayed another 3 hours.. Sorry no pics this time, phone got a little wet when i fell in, bummer. Wish every day could have been like today !!

Congrats on a sucessful day. I don't doubt for a minute there are some 7 lb. lunkers out there. Did you hear of the guy who caught and weighed a Tuc that was 9 lbs. 10 oz? He just threw it back. Not sure if he knew he had the State record! Mahalos again for showing some aloha with your lures. And congrats for getting your wife to go with you. IF mine ever comes, she just sleeps or plays her PS3....
Thanks roadwarrior, that 9 lbs 7 oz could very well be me one day, because i never have a scale with me, nor do i really need the recognition of a record. Just so darn fun to catch these fish. The first tuc i caught was just about a year ago to date and i had previously thought that largemouth bass were the best pound for pound freshwater fight around. These tucs got me so darn hooked its crazy.. I'll be fishin same spot tommorrow from 0800 -1100 to see if i can hook up with that big tuc i spoke of earlier. But the main reason i'm goin back tommorrow mornin is because i dropped a spring action knife while fishing, it has a military medical insignia on it i'm hoping to retrieve. More sentimental value than actual value.. If anyone sees a crazy guy fishing in no mans land tommorrow morning, say hi !!

LMB are my favorite fish of all to catch, but they are pretty average fighters. Bluegills and tucs are strong for their size. Smallmouths and carp too. Anyway, I hope to see you out there. I plan on getting out there by 10am. Yesterday I threw lures for over an hour at literally dozens of tucs that were passing right in front of me. Finally I got frustrated and decided to catch some small cichlids for bait. I managed to catch 5 baits which resulted in 5 tucs. I saw one that was pushing 6 lbs, but I didn't have a bait ready at the time. I really did feel like an idiot with my fancy pants rod and reel fishing with just a hook and minnow. You gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. The dark side! Oh, does anyone know the guy in the aluminum jon boat with the bright yellow Skeet Reese spinning rod? I played with a few baitcasting models in the store (Cabela's) and I couldn't believe how lame they felt, especially with all the hype. I was thinking that no one would buy these rods if they weren't yellow and had Skeet's name on them. I was wondering if maybe the spinning models weren't as bad.

Went out today from 830 to 1100 and landed three decent size tucs ranging from 1-3 lbs. Got pictures of them today. A little tough takin the pic and holdin the fish at the same time though! Found um sittin under branches again. Didn't have time to get live bait today, but jigging a 1/8 oz white roadrunner got their attention everytime! And i recovered my knife i left behind yesterday, great short fishing trip today !!

skunked your right about the rods, i got a casting crankbait model wright and mcgill model. dont know how the spinning rods are but i wasnt impressed with the rod i got. came with a jersey i use more than the rod hahahaha. i also got the kvd rod and i like it alot more. i been trying technique specific rods trying to find ones i like without breaking the bank on a 300$ one, but i guess you get what you pay for. i just recently got 2 carrot stix on sale at cabelas for 89$ damn things are so light i have a hard time casting with em. i hear they break alot, hopefully not will keep you informed when i get a fish on one of them so far nothing....
