Friday Morning Action: 8-13-10
It started out calm enough... gentle breeze, clear sunny skies...
The Red Devils were very aggressive today.
Any slow moving lure drew strikes or follows.
Even the Bluegill were chasing all the lures today.
After several large peacock bass refused the
Senko at the last moment, Chris switched to
his "Secret" lure. Then the action really started.
Chris makes a long stretch just as the fish jumped.
Hiromitsu with his first peacock bass of the day.
After several follows and blowups that would
make your heart skip a beat... the 2nd PB of the morning.
Other fish also like the "Secret" lure. Here is his
first Hawaii Largemouth Bass.
We saw lots and lots of small largemouth and
peacock bass... most were too small to eat
the "Secret" lure. But it was sure fun watching
them try. I even located large schools of bluegill...
but we were "after bigger fish to fry".
This is Peacock bass number 3.....
it's Hiromitsu's largest ever... a four pounder.
Wish I had a video of this peacock bass.
It jumps several times. But the last jump was
the best... right beside the boat it came straight
up out of the water, and with a violent head shake,
threw the lure right back into the boat.
Hiro shouted: "Noooooo", and Chris made
a diving, shoestring catch with the net as the
fish hit the water. I tell you that "catch" would
have made the highlight reels.
It was an action packed morning. We saw (and lost)
a lot more fish than we caught. But even the ones
that got away put on a show we won't soon forget.
I promised Chris that while writing this report I would
not give away any information about where we caught the
fish or talk about his "Secret" lure...
(except to say that I just ordered a 1/2 dozen of them)

"Why let the truth stand in the way of a good fish story?"
