Backlash? NO PROBLEM

Postby Stan Wright » Tue Jul 20, 2010 1:08 pm

Backlash? NO Problem.

While bass fishing in Mexico, I got the "mother of all backlashes"
in my reel loaded with 50# test braid line. I laid down the
rod figuring I would cut out the line that night and re-spool.
A few minutes later our Mexican guide handed me the rod...
no more tangles.
How did he do that? And so quick too.?

His secret... a Crochet Hook.

It's perfect for geting deep into tangled line and
finding just the right loop to pull on. A crochet hook
can grab those loops and tangles that "fat fingers"
just can't seen to get hold of. Works equally well
on Mono or Braid.

The little hooks work best. Just right for light braid line.

I have several sizes in my tackle box, but the
smaller ones work the best on small diameter lines.
My (US-7), 1.5mm size crochet hook makes
quick work of backlashes and wind knots.
I think I paid under $2 for it at Long's.

Birds-nest, backlash, tangle, or professional-line-over-wind....
what ever you call it. The best way to get rid of it
is with a simple little Crochet Hook.

Thanks Stan. I'll definitely be needing one of those! I also use the "push thumb down on spool, reel 3 times, then pull line back out, repeat" method. Seems to work most of the time, unless it's a really bad one.
