The lake has a somewhat unjustified bad rap for being "dirty" due to the homeless living on the banks. I've eaten numerous catfish from the north fork and lived to tell about it! Nothing but fresh mountain water up there. I don't eat the bass since they are "catch & release" by law. Movie companies have filmed a couple of movie scenes up on the north fork and tested the waters for various bacteria, etc. and it all came back in the safe levels (third hand info).

That test the Health Dept did a year or so ago... safe to eat the fillets.
DO NOT eat the head or the guts of the catfish.

I like basa. We have them in the supermarkets as frozen fillets and they are farmed fish...so who knows...I think they come from Vietnam too.

What is more of a shame is that these developing countries and their people are just trying to stay alive and compete with developed countries. If the people and hardly afford to feed themselves, environmental damage is the least of their problems.

Then again, governments that do not enforce laws and punish violators do not help the situation.
Caution - Objects in picture are smaller than they appear.

I am genetically predisposed to make fish look bigger than they really are.
