I decided to drop by Nervous Water Fly Shop
and see for myself what flys Clay had been
tying up for Roadwarior and the other fly guys.
Clay showed me an assortment of "Cap Spiders"....
these are ones I tied ...not nearly as professional
looking as Clays, but they still catch fish.
The cap spider is a long rubber legged bug
tied onto a 1/64 ounce jig.
They catch bluegills and red devils.

The subject turned to peacock bass.
Clay feels they are moving into their summer
pattern and not feeding on the silver shad yet.
I also noticed we were not geting nearly as many
strikes on the white streamer flys......

........as we were on the more colorful patterns like
my Filipino Fiesta. Clay suggested working the
shoreline with flys that look like colorful chiliads...
the kind that eat peacock bass eggs. Those big
males cruising around close to the nest will smash
anything that poses a threat to the babies.

We had good luck on gold. The fly in the middle
is the "50 Cent Fly". Simple to tye, it's a #10 AH hook,
some gold Flash-a-boo, orange thread, and
a bead chain eye. ( Clay says it's so simple
and cheep looking that he couldn't sell it for 50 cents )
I noticed he did have some on display.

They are killer on all kinds of fish.

The "50 Cent Fly" and the "Cap Spiders" are not
weedless and they will get hung up more than
the flys tied on a "Keel Hook". But it's a light
wire that will straighten out if your leader is
strong enough.... say, 12 pound test? Besides,
they are cheep to tye... and the fish love them.
Clay has a bunch of colors down at the fly shop,
or he'll be glas to sell you the stuff you'll need to
tye your own.
