Best fishing this year.... that what he said.

Chris and two friends worked the shoreline this morning and cleaned up. They got fish in the 3 and 4 pound range.... 6 or 7 fish each. They missed strikes on some even larger fish. Topwater lures, and also those 2 inch white Senkos he likes so much.

Some of the peacock bass had huge humps on their head.

I called Clay to tell him about the action and he said: "Where have you been? Don't you read my Blog?"

I'm going to try the fly rod tomorrow. Peacocks on a popper.
I hear the red devils are also feeding these days.

hey stan what kind of poppers can you use for a spiining rod i never tried those. and you know anybody with a beginner(cheap) fly rod combo set wouldnt mind trying i had one when i was young i can cast but dont know about the line and all that. or should just by one from bass pro?

We use the small Pop-R, Tiny Torpedo, and the Sammy.

My first flyrod was a combo from Cabellas. Around $80 to $100 as I recall. Rod, reel, and floating fly line. I like a 5 weight outfit, but a 6 weight would probably be a better bet for a befinner as an all around rod size.
I also get the 9 foot rods....
And ALWAYS get the 4 piece Travel rod. The convience is well worth any extra cost.

Try visit Nervous Water Fly Shop for advice and look at several types of rods. You might think about buying a more expensive rod right off the bat. In the long run you'll save because you'll end up buying a better rod later as you improve and get more into fly fishing.

Thanx for the info I had a floating line with mine and didn't catch a single tuc you guys use sinking line and does it matter what color or you use a long leader? Ill be fishing tomorrow in the morning ill post a report tomorrow!

We use a Weight Forward- Floating line. I like a 5 weight myself.
I use the regular 7 1/2 foot bass taper knotless leaders... 12# test?

Chris likes to cut it down to a shorter leader... (from the thick end) to mabe 3 or 4 feet long. The peacock bass are not leader shy. His feeling is with a shorter leader your fly is in the water longer. We cast from the boat to shore and if your using a 9 foot rod and a 9 foot leader.... that's a lot of feet of line that your not going to keep in the water out to the boat before you have to cast again.
I tie on a 12 to 18 inches of floracarbon tippet. 12# or as much as 20# test. Again, the fish don't seem to care. That way I can change flys and just keep cutting back on the tippet. When it get's all used up I tie on another tippet. That way the leader lasts longer.

Fished yesterday for a few hours in the beautiful weather and caught nothing but an accidentally snagged tilapia. Fished today in the wind, cold, and rain at the exact same spot and caught 7 tucs, with the largest being about 3 pounds. Very strange. I hope it's just a fluke because I don't want to wait til the weather is terrible in order to catch a few fish! A pleasant surprise for me was seeing a few little schools of mosquito fish after not seeing any for a long time.

I was at the wrong spots or you were at the only spot lol! I fished the north fork from quanset huts to boston pizza and only seen 3 tucs didn't hook any. then on my way back Whent stricly for red devils and only caught 1. I even pitched a grub at a carp on shore out of desperation and a bass hit a 1lb healthy bass out of pure luck with a grub on a jig head. Seen 1 big tuc guarding his fry about 2 inches big but no spawners I could see today! Fished from 9-2 cold,windy,wet!
