Mon. Report

Postby roadwarriorsvt » Mon Dec 28, 2009 6:34 pm

Didn't plan of fishing but I was able to squeeze in 1 hour of fishing from 4-5 pm. I saw Chris pulling out as I was pulling in. I just went to the main basin/Kemoo Island. There were a few lonely bust here and there. I ended up catching 6 peacocks (if you count the 2 little finger sized ones), four 6-8", and one well over 2 lbs. Not too bad for only an hour. The gold fly behind the clear bubble was the weapon of choice.

Fishing the bubble and fly

Postby tkpeltier » Tue Dec 29, 2009 9:43 pm

I've been fishing the bubble and fly with no luck! Is the whole rig supposed to be submerged when you retrieve it. I've been retrieving it fast but the bubble is all you see come barreling over the water even when it is full of water. I know you have to fish it fast for the tucs but am I fishing it too fast do you think?

I'm a newb to the bubble method myself, taught by sensei Stan. I fill mine about half full, but sometimes I'll leave it half empty. I jerk it fairly rapid while reeling it in, to make the water splash, which attracts the Tucs. Kind of a jerk, reel, jerk, reel, etc. motion. My leader is about 5' long.

I fish it fast and jerk it along the surface. Quick, splashy, jerky, retrieve.

Chris got some small ones on Wed. Some red devils and a catfish.
He called it a slow day, hard fishing. Might be because that front has moved in. Live bait. Some big blowups near shore, but couldn't stick them.
