Record Breaking Rains

Saturday, March 25......... Well it's a good thing we're not fishing this week. As you have probably seen on the news, there is a huge low pressure area NW of Hawaii that has stalled for the last 6 weeks. Very unusual. Anyway, it's rained for well over a month. All rainfall records have been broken, times 2 or 3, and the month isn't even over yet. The most rain in March since they have been keeping records.

Lake Wilson is at flood stage and the water is one big mud puddle.... the color of coffee with cream. Yesterdays flooding (Hawaii has been under flood warnings every day for a month) caused a sewage spill, and they closed the lake. No big deal, because the fishing is impossible in the muddy water anyway. We've canceled most of the trips for a month. and the fishermen like me.... hard corps.......<grin> who insisted on going any way were rewarded with a wet boat ride, and not much else.


If the rain will ever stop, (we are under flood warnings till the end of March) it should take about 2 weeks to get back to normal.

I had the day off and had to get on the water. So I went out today and found some clean water around Morgan's Point. I had one hit on a 5" dark tube and that was it. I only saw about 7 or so fish the whole day. A couple of peacocks and a red devil or two. Fished the whole North Fork and then headed around to the South Fork and the water was murkier there.

I can't wait for it to clean up.

Stan once the low pressure front leaves will the fish be more aggressive and hungry because they have held out on their spawning?
