Ramp Cleanup
If the DLNR was to get a power washer, or something to clean out the mud and debris at the end of the boat ramp.... They ask me, "Do you think we could get some volunteers to help?"
They are working on what it would take and who has the kind of equipment needed. It's just in the early planning stages now. (I ask if they provided the shovels, or should I bring my own?)
I've heard the water level is low enough so they can work on the valve things at the dam... They are working as fast as they can before any rain comes and the water level rises again. But they can't really tell how long the repairs might end up lasting.
There seems to be enough water at the end of the ramp to launch the boats now, but it could still use a little cleaning out of the mud.
What do you think? Any ideas or suggestions?
Stan

I'd be willing to help but here are a couple of things to consider.
1) Power washers need a fresh water source. Are there any faucets in the park? (w/i range of a long hose?)
2) What is the purpose of power washing the boat ramp? When (if) the water rises, it'll be submerged with muddy water again.
I have a 2600 PSI washer I'm willing to use, but I'm in the dark about the necessity. I'm willing to show up and pressure wash the ramp, even if it is just to appease the DLNR. We need to show them we care about the lake.
Ace Hardware also has pressure washer rentals if the DLNR has it in their petty cash fund to rent one/some if my one is not enough.

I'm not sure where the term "power washer" came from. I don't think it is like the one I use to clean the rock walls and driveway...
I was thinking something more like a fire hose to wash away the mud and silt at the bottom of the ramp and in the shallow water.
Could be just geting up to our knees in the water and shoveling.
We don't really know how long the repairs will take.... so it might be a good idea to clean away as much mud as possible.... we could be using the ramp at this water level for some time to come.

Good news, the head of the Dam Safety Committee said they might be able to arrange the funds for a backhoe to clean out the mud at the end of the boat ramp.
As for the mud...... about 5 ft. out from the water's edge at the ramp and straight down at that point there's about 3.5 ft. of mud that needs to be cleared. Does that sound about right?

I fished this afternoon and the ramp was free of
mud and debris. They even washed between the
12" slabs to expose the metal hinge that joins
the slabs together. The space between the slabs
are deep now so watch your footing ( I almost
twisted my ankle stepping into one).
One fellow said the ramp goes out almost 20'
into the water.
