6th of July Fishing Report

Postby bassnman » Mon Jul 06, 2009 10:21 pm

There's nothing like having a boss who gives you a half day off to celebrate our country's birthday. I headed for the lake and found the peacock bass to be cooperating again. The water dropped another foot since the 4th, but there were several big boats on the water. I came across a bass tracker as well as Bill's Ranger. I boated 10-12 peacocks while several others wrapped around the logs and got off. The biggest one was pushing 5#, here's a picture of him:

This guy put up a good fight. It took about 15 minutes on my 8# line and light aberdeen hook. He was happily released so another lucky angler can enjoy catching him. Good Luck!
Good fishin'!

Nice looking fish! Wanna share what you were using to catch them?

I don't know what he was using for bait, but I know exactly where he was fishing. :D

Caught almost of all my fish on live minnows. They were much more effective than lures and flies. On one shoreline, I was able to pick off 5-6 peacocks fishing behind a guy using a flyrod. He caught one, but the bass seemed to like the real thing much better.
Good fishin'!
