Alaska is a very special place. The fishing is out of this world. Everyone should make the effort to fish Alaska at least once in their life time.
Aloha,

In the olden days I use to carry a 44 mag...
on this trip the guide had big cans of pepper spray.
I didn't get to fish "bear creek" with them that day.
( I was in the emergency room all morning...
but that's another story )
Anyway, the bears were more interested in the
fish than the fisherman. As the 3 anglers hiked
along the trail beside the river.... they met a bear....
sooooo, they started backing up to give right-a-way to the bear...
The guide was holding the pepper spray, Chris was
shooting pictures over his shoulder, and Lynn
was behind Chris...
all slowly backing down the trail.
Lynn stepped off the edge of the trail, and in falling
screamed and grabbed Chris, who screamed and
grabbed the guide, who accidently cut loose,
spraying a full can of pepper spray all over
everything and everyone.
Lynn rolled down the hill, and slammed into a
log before going into the river. All the yelling
scared away the bears, and attracted the
attention of some other anglers....
Which was good, because they were able to help
carry Lynn back to the boat because,
when he slid into the log it broke his ankle.
Lynn declined our invitation to fish Alaska this year.

YIKES!!! So I'm guessing that this was the truth since it wasn't a good fish story (except for the bear who caught the fish LOL)!! I'm sorry to hear of how that story unfolded!! It sounds like something that would happen to me! I'm the clutz and my dad calls me Ms. Grace. Thanks for the pictures and letting me know about the chances of meeting up with them bears!! I'm a chicken which is why I'm taking to kayak fishing slowly. I'm not sure I'm ready for a shark encounter. Like my guy says, we're heading into their territory so we gotta respect them!!
I love this site!! Very imformative!! Thanks for all the info!!!
