friday
just back from a hot day on the lake. and i dont mean as in action!water temp hovered around 83,and my little thermometer on the dash read 95 with a 97 at noon!fishing was tuff! tried points hoping to get something staging from deep to shallow, but nothing there.no signs anywhere of tucs, red devils were scarce.threw deep cranks but nothing except scaring some fingernail sized shad to the surface.tried top waters, jigs, swimbaits, and jerkbait.all to no avail.finally managed to catch 2 largemouth by slow rolling spinnerbaits.seemed to be a thermocline around 7-10ft.thats where i got my bass, not relating to any kind of structure or cover just depth,it was more the amount of water i covered than any kind of pattern.figured the spinnerbait matched the schools of little baitfish and worked well for probing the water column, steeper banks and just reel enough to feel the thump of the blades. i tried deep approachs to drop shot and carolina rig but felt i was under the fish.think the turnover from the heat may have left "dead" water below 12ft.good luck out there!
