On Monday, Randal Sakai and I were fly fishing and found all the action with schooling peacock and largemouth bass.
First they were breaking near Cow Pt. As we moved on down the lake we saw surface action around Boy Scout Island, Mikiki Flats, Conaways Hole and all around Morgans Pt.
We never did get a fish working the shore line. We didn't even see any tukes. Everything was out in the center of the lake with the fish chasing shad. They liked a super small fly, an inch long, white of silver flash.
Normally we caught as they busted the surface, baitfish jumping out of the water, but we also caught fish blind casting when the fish went down.
Oh, the guys over on Morgans Pt. using live bait were killing them. As soon as a live bait hit the water they hooked up. When they ran out of bait they left. We could see the peacock bass swimming around waiting to be "fed" another live fish, but they would not take any flys we tried.
The fish were 1 to 3 pounds in size. The peacock bass were fat and healthy. The largemouth bass on the skinny side. We had a good day. More than enough action to make it a relaxing good fun day on the lake.
Aloha,
Stan
