World Record Bonfish... Eaten

Postby Stan Wright » Fri Jun 06, 2008 2:09 pm

What could have been a world record bonefish (Oio, in Hawaii) was turned into fish cake. There must be some larger ones out there yet.

This picture was in the Honolulu Advertiser, June 6, 2008.

That hairstyle looks so 1950s, are you sure this story though in recent issue could be a reprint of an old story?
I've fished off the Palaoa Lighthouse on southwest end of Lana'i at night in about 100 feet of water for Menpachi, and hooked into sizable O'io there with several fish breaking the line after long runs. I have heard of Lana'i bottom fishermen catching O'io in that area pushing 30 pounds. I think the next record O'io will come in from a boat and bottom fisherman.

I thought the world record was 16lbs and 3oz's, maybe that's a class record or something.
