Going to try my luck at kayak fishing on friday. Any pointers? And where would be a good place to start fishing from the boat ramp? I've been reading about cow pt. and boyscout island...is that a pretty good trek on a kayak?
Appreciate any input!

Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

It is pretty darn far from the ramp to Boy Scout island. I did it once and I was pretty beat. After that I started putting in right across from Boy Scout island along the road right after the stop light/turn off to Schoffield. If you can drag your kayak back up the hill to your vehicle then it is a great place to put in.

Two place you might consider which have produced for me in the past are these located just a short paddle from the ramp on the South Fork:
TUCANARE COVE
This area had produced Tucanare using gold Rapala Minnows or live bait
BLUEGILL BAY
The SE side of this bay in the past has produced hand sized Bluegills especially in the spring.
Disclaimer: I just recently moved back to Oahu from Maui after an absence of 14 years so conditions may have changed in the meantime so YMMV.
