My buddy and I started fishing around 2:15pm today and ended at around 5:00 or 5:30. We probably caught around 8 or 10 fish today with the fly rods. I got a chance to break in my new 4wt, fish was about 2.5lb tuc and that was fun. There was no busting going on today, from boy scout to Morgans(that's were we fished). Most fish we deeper than usual and we had to strip pretty slowly to get bit.

Friday was pretty much the same for us. The fish were kind of sluggish in the 69 degree water... There were some chases and follows using streamer flys and little Senkos on the spinning rods....., but not that aggressive behavior we like to see. They still caught 8 to 10 fish each.

I was using bait on our boat and even with bait the fish were not that aggressive. Still a good day though... (we caught a lot more with bait than the other boat caught using lures and flys.) Those kids had a ball.

With the high water (it's over the 80 foot level and going over the spilway) and the cooler temperatures things really are changed from last week. Water visibility is great... 4 or 5 feet.

wow sunday was almost exactly the same thing. Started @9am and left @6pm. Most fish were in the 1lb category, lots of chasing only, no frenzy or busting. There were quite a few "packs" of tiny juveniles in grassy areas but they just chased. Some small guys looked sorta dazed even barely able to keep up with the retrieve. Still exciting tho seeing a fish come out from the murky depths and chase your bait.

Those little guys are a great confidence builder for a beginning fly fisherman.... we just need to put the right tackle in your hands and tie on a small streamer fly..... good fun. And as your playing one of those little 6 inch peacock bass right beside the boat.... and when you least expect it... one of those big 6 pounders comes out from under the boat and grabs it. Splashes water all over you and scares you something fierce.

waitaminit. So that has actually happened??? Holy Cr@p! I did not know Tucs were cannibalistic. Since they care for their young till a certain age, I figured otherwise.

I've had it happen to me only once, and the fish that ate the baby tuc broke me off in a hurry and I never got glimpse of him.

I was fly fishing with a guy and it happened twice.... so he drags out this big saltwater fly about 8 inches long... green and yellow flash-a-boo thing he uses for mahimahi.
The larger peacock bass were still milling around and a 5 pounder nailed it on the first cast. It's hard to believe it till you see it.
