Weekend Report.

Postby Stan Wright » Mon Dec 10, 2007 11:03 am

Looks like the rain didn't hurt the fishing.... Sat and Sun. reported catches of mostly small peacock bass in the 12 to 13 inch range with a few 2 to 3 pounders.

Schooling fish near the dam and along the North Fork. Clay got into a schooling fish feeding frenzy late in the afternoon along the pineapple field. Larger fish were taken on live bait.

Not much of a report, but no one I spoke with was volunteering much information. Anyone else out there fishing?

I can never understand these types of people. It's not like these people are professionals who are protecting their spots so that they can put food on the table. Several times while at the ramp, I have asked people about how they did and all I would get would be a single sentence response, or no response at all. Also, when I am standing on the bank and a boat passes by and they can't even muster a simple wave to say "hi". We have this wonderful sport as a common love, and some people treat their fellow anglers like this. How sad.

You've heard the old joke about communication... "Tellagraph, Tellaphone, & Tellawoman." (Or in my case"TellStan")
I have been accused over the years of giving away to many secrets. LOL

There is not alot of secret to finding a secret spot on Wilson, Just watch where they go. There are alot of grumpy people on Wilson that wont share anything. I dont understand it either! I will wave at every shore guy and boat, and I say in return only get about a 25%.

Alot are from the club. Just like the fact they bitch about speed and wakes all day but only Chris and Kelton slowed down on Sunday while passing me. The rest where full wake. Ill get them back

I could be one of those people at times.

It really depends on where I'm fishing and whether people there are on a meat hunt or just having a good time.

If I see parents with kids, I'm usually honest and helpful to the point where I'll even give them my spot, bait and even tackle if they're not catching and I'm just about to leave. :D

If I see fellow flyfisher, I withhold my best holes, but will give a mostly accurate report. I'm sure the next guy does the same to me when I ask...I never got the straight answer from any flyfisher before.

If I see meat hunters, I will give them a "not much happening" report so they will have to work for the feed. If they are persistent and annoying, I will steer them in the wrong directions   Some of our waters just received too much pressure for these meat hunters (there are people who catch their limits, go home, unload into the freezer, and come back for more...the worst of them come out during the salmon and trout spawning season).

For travelling anglers, I'll try to be most helpful...I know how it feels to have a limited time frame and unlimited desire to catch everything possible. *hint hint Stan*

My rule is that respect is mutual. If you wave to me, I'll gladly wave back to you. If I wave to you and you don't wave back, that's okay...you're getting nothing from me. If we are chatting and we got a good vibe about each other, then I'll start sharing more. And if some spots are willingly shared with me, I'll do the same as well. I think it is easy enough to know if someone is a pleasant person within a 5 min chat on the water :D

The only time I shut my trap is a few days before I plan on fishing the HFFA tournaments. Those really aren't too serious but I gotta practice for when I get back to the mainland and start fishing some money tournaments. Other than that I'll tell most people just about anything. I've even called people when I've found schools so they could come join in on the action. Get back to hawaii tomarrow, spent a lot a time at the Cabelas shop here :D I have some new toys I need to try out soon!!! Can wait to get a nice tuc on my new 4wt.
