Salmon fishing in an Ontario river

Postby Ken » Sun Oct 14, 2007 7:58 am

Late September, after 3 weeks of busy work at the lab, I went salmon fishing with my dad. He went back to Hong Kong to study for his EMBA program and I haven't seen him for about 1.5 years. We timed the salmon run perfectly. It had rained the night before and the water level rose, allowing fish to swim up the river. I had a fish on within the first 5 min, my dad lost that fish, then another fish on within the first 10 min. We landed 4 salmon in total and losing 2. Talk about great fishing action for only 2 hours.

Here's an action shot of my dad fighting his second fish.

And his fish

Here's my own big salmon

And a little male. They usually swim upstream with the mature fish so the little ones can feed on the salmon eggs that were washed up from the spawning reeds (nest).

BTW, love the pair of fishing gloves you see in the pictures. I got them in Hilo!

Here's a couple of pics of fish jumping at the dam.

A chinook salmon...

And a brown trout.

Anyways, mahalo for reading my fishing adventures.
