I didn't get to do much fishing after returning home to Toronto. My latest fishing trip was spent on a "local" river fly fishing the headwater for brook trout.

I landed two that day, losing a few, and missed a whole lot of rises. Most of the fish rose to #18 Elk Hair Caddis, #22 Blue-Winged Olive and #16 Griffith Gnat.

Hey Stan and everyone else, I thought you may enjoy this also.

I went for a morning fish before a conference on Thursday. I was hoping to find some mooneyes on the Grand River...but I guess they were done spawning in June and most of them have left the system.

I got lucky and found a smallmouth bass to prevent a skunking The fish took a purple woolly bugger at the end of the swing as I was stripping the line in for the next cast.

This is my first smallmouth on the fly...I mainly fish trout on the fly in the previous 3 years. Next summer, I'll have to take my fly rod to my trusty smallie spot and have a blast The water is getting just a bit cooler now and I think the fish would have move away from the spot into deeper water...so I'll have to wait until next year





Also saw a couple of deer late in the morning while I was fishing.

Talked with a guy who went small mouth fishing in Washington and he really likes them. I want to go too.

Lately the peacock bass have been schooling..... when there is some overcast they really break loose. Otherwise just follow the shoreline and you'll see them. Nice action, you would have loved it.

There are some huge bonefish comming around too. Ones so big even I can see them.

I'm always tossed up between coming in April or later in the summer...I want to come in April for the crazy mahimahi run...but then I also want to be there when the peacock bass are busting, the papio eats oama like candy and the bonefish are active...such a tough choice

You can come to Ontario...our smallmouth fishing is just as great...if not better (Simcoe, St. Clair, Erie are just 3 trophy lakes all within reach)

Oh...I also stalked some carp in the shallows while I was on the Grand...that is as close to bonefishing as I can find in Ontario Those buggers are just as hard to see and just as spooky as the o'io
