What's in a name? How does a place get a name? Well in the case of "Blue Boat Point" it's the wild feeding frenzy of peacock bass this last week and the pretty blue bass boat that's always parked there.
Several times in the last two weeks I've seen that blue boat tied up to the point of land on the south shore that separates the North Fork and the South Fork of the lake. They always wave and keep fishing the fish they are hooked up to. Nice guys, smiling and laughing.
This week I've been hearing reports of wild feeding fish, larger fish in the 5 to 6 pound range. People catching 25 to 30, even 50 to 100 fish. Not just the one to two pound average size ones.... lots of larger fish too.
When I ask where......? "South of the dam by the Blue Boat." "On that point where the Blue Boat fishes." "We tied up right next to the Blue Boat." "Blue Boat Point." Even my son has started calling the place Blue Boat Point.
Yesterday, Friday, Aug.17. the peacock bass were busting all around Blue Boat Point. Using lures, Chris and Joe, landed fish weighing over 6 pounds. (on the Boga-grip scale) It was one of those days where you try out all the lures in your tackle box.... and most everything works.
I haven't got a report from the "Blue Boat" about how they did on Friday, but on Wed. they caught over 100 peacock bass using live bait. Mollies, feeder fish from the pet store. Just as fast as they could put a bait in the water, there was a strike.
The guy was a little excited as he was giving me the report..... but having fished with him before, I'm sure his report of the wild peacock bass action at "Blue Boat Point" wasn't just another "Fishinggggggggg Tale."
Aloha,
Stan
This is "The Blue Boat" headed out to..... Blue Boat Point.

Oh, ye of little faith.
Remember last year when all the action was at Morgans Point? Everyone parked their boat and fished live bait from shore. You put a minnow on your hook... tossed it out 5 or 6 feet from shore and tried to count to 15 seconds before a fish grabbed it. Remember? There would be 5 or 6 guys hooked up at a time. 100 fish per rod?
Well now that kind of action is happening at a new point. Since the guys in that bright blue bass boat are fishing there almost every time I go buy.... And the point doesn't have a name on the map.... "Blue Boat Point".
O.K. First get some live bait. (The guys in the blue boat buy Mollies (feeder fish) from that pet store by Stadium Mall. ) I like light line, 4# or 6# test and a #10 AH hook) Something small so as not to weight down the little baits and loose their swimming action. A BB size split shot a foot or two above the hook. I see some people using a floater. Some people don't like to use a weight. Up to you.
Now launch your boat and head toward the dam. When you get to the Main Basin, it's that point of land on your right. On the map..... See that point of land marked #2o.... ? Right at the tip of that point? Due East of #17 (Kemoo Island) and due South of The Saddle. That's where the action is.... that's Blue Boat Point. Or you could just look for the guys in the pretty blue bass boat catching all the fish. LOL

Stan
