Half Day Trip with Stan Wright and Hawaii Bass Fishing

Postby Charles Cintron » Tue Oct 15, 2013 2:42 pm

Aloha Guys,

First post in your forum and wanted to share a recent trip I did with Hawaii Bass Fishing and Stan Wright. I won a half day bass trip on a silent auction at the 2012 PIFG Hawaii fishing and seafood festival and finally made the call to take my kids on their first trip to fish on Lake Wilson on a boat. I had only visited Lake Wilson once before earlier in the year, we headed up there to take the kids fishing from the banks and have lunch. We managed to catch one bass off the boat ramp with a crankbait and a bunch of other small fish near the banks.

I was very excited to go on this trip myself as I am a big fan of Bass fishing and this would be my first time fishing for bass in 6 years. I lived in Bossier City, Louisiana for 11 years and fished the Red River a lot and the surrounding Lakes. I did a lot of club tourneys and had lots fun in the local Bass Wars.

Fishing with Stan was a pleasure and he was just great with the kids. We fished for a little over 3 hours and I lost count on how much Peacock bass we caught. My kids can cast a spinning rod and they were able to catch fish on their own which was great as we all know if the action isn’t there with the little ones they get restless. We were able to get a kicker fish early in the day from the bank, a nice peacock bass around 3lbs with the little kastmaster that Stan had rigged up for us. As soon as I hooked into it I handed the rod to my 8 year old son and let him go to town lol. We landed it and big smiles and high fives all around.

After the kids caught a bunch of fish it was time for me to knock the dust off some lures that have been sitting around for years and I was dying to use them again! I tied on a Lucky Craft RC 1.5 shallow crankbait and started to work the points and got a small largemouth to bite and handed the rod to my son again to fight. Felt good to see a Bass on a crankbait after all these years.

What a great fishery we have here in the heart of Oahu. The kids had a blast and so did I, hopefully I’ll be able to make it up there more often I would love to do some club tourneys again. While eating lunch with the family my wife looked at me and said, “Don’t even think about getting another boat for bass fishing!” I just laughed as I thought what size boat could fit in my garage.

Mahalo Stan for a great trip with the kids and aloha everyone awesome forum and tight lines to everyone here.

Glad you had a good time. Stan is a great guide. If you are interested in club tournament fishing, I'd be glad to talk with you about the Hawaii Freshwater Fishing Assn. (HFFA). There are a couple of other clubs out there, or so I've been told.

Howzit Stan anytime buddy, my daughter loves the UV bracelet wears it all the time thanks again.

The GT was caught on Oahu

Howzit roadwarrior thanks for the offer, I'll probably try and get a Jon boat and trick it out sometime in the future. My fishing partner has fished Wilson for years and he's been keen to get back there maybe I can convince him to do some club fishing.

Aloha
