Rumor has it that the water temperature is around 81º. The peacock bass are spawning. However, with the water level rising 4 or 5 feet last week, the nesting peacock bass are too deep to spot. One angler reports just slowly moves along the shoreline jigging his fly in likely spots where he "thinks" a nest might be.
He said it's slow going but if there is a fish down there and you keep jigging up and down, you'll see the flash of movement and you will catch fish.
Cruising the shoreline and casting lures for peacock bass (Running & Gunning) has just produced an occasional follow. A few one shot blow up under your lure, but not very many hookups.
The largemouth bass anglers using jigs and plastic worms to work points and wood are catching some nice healthy fish. The 1 1/2 to 3 pound size from what I hear, and in some nice numbers too.
Seems like hundreds of little 8 inch largemouth were hanging around grass and fallen trees. They were attacking anything that got near them.
Also reports of seeing lots of bluegills. They would follow lures right up to the boat. Perhaps the bluegill are making a comeback to numbers like we had before the Sulvenia Molesta closed the lake... when was that? Five or 6 years ago?
If Red Devils are your cup of tea, grab your fly rods and ultra-light spinners... the RDs are every where and aggressive.
Think I'll dust off my Tenkara Rods and head up to the lake.
