Anybody know where to buy live bait?

Postby kcandjacy » Sat Dec 22, 2012 1:27 pm

I usually buy from Moanalua pets, but they just told me they wouldn't be getting any for at least a few weeks. I have my dad in town from California and wanted to take him out to hook up with his first Peacock.. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Mahalo!

Honestly, you're probably better off buying a scoop net and just catching bait yourself. Try any of the streams in town or even the little stream that runs into Lake Wilson before you get to the boat ramp. Chum some bread and just scoop them up. Walmart also sells minnow traps if you want to go that route. I find the best live bait for PB are 1-2" baby tilapia.

I used to catch my own live bait as well. Mililani Pet Store sells comets which work fine also.

Something to think about when placing your minnow trap in the water.

Mililani Pet Store has gone out of business. Pets R Us in Mililani Mauka carries some feeder fish, as well as crayfish that you could use as bait.

I got him covered. I need to get some feeder fish to feed the fish at home anyways, so I offered to catch some extra for him. Anyone else need bait? Going tomorrow around noon and be back around 4 if you want to meet up at the ramp to get a few.
