Got this from Capt. Clay over on Molokai...
No way I'd take my boat out through that.

Molokai to Oahu Canoe Race

Thought you might like to see some pix from the canoe race this past Sunday? Treacherous just getting out of the harbor to the starting line, as you may have already heard?

Escort boat almost didn't make it over the top!

This is a video of the paddle out... Amazing...

Only one wahine (woman) was hurt, tweaked shoulder and coupla hurt ribs. Two teams dropped out, one boat was damaged, broken ama, (outrigger) so they couldn't even compete, bummer after all the months of practice, but, this is what these women live for! My daughter's team finished 14th out of over 50+ crews entered. She's the one with the glasses, sponsored by Maui Jim…

I've been to Hale'olono harbor on two occasions when the south swell sets were closing out the harbor mouth, once on a sailboat, once ina fishing boat both with power. Extremely scary, timing critical between sets but both times made it out and back to Maunalua Bay. Paddling in that kind of surf even more scary. Those girls are awesome!

Talk about waves...I replayed the one safety boat going over the wave a couple times...those outriggers flexed hard!!!
