Flies for Peacock Bass in HI

Postby Ernest » Tue May 09, 2006 3:23 pm

Hi guys,
I'm moving to Oahu this summer and I'm trying to get a jump on tying the right ones for Peacock Bass in Hawaii.

Hi Ernest. I am not a fly fisherman but I have used flies in the past. I hope you have access to a boat because fly fishing from the bank is difficult in Lake Wilson. Stan Wright recommends using keel hooks when constructing your flies. I think small streamers about one to two inches long work the best. Bright colors work well. I like using clousers.

Thanks for the link and the advice. I have a Tarpon 120 kayak, so I should be OK as far as being on the water. I'm using and 8 wt rod, and will be sure to bring as may bright colored bait fish imatators as I can, to include the Clouser. The largemouths here in NC are a fan of the Clouser too!
