Fishing with Grandpa

Postby Stan Wright » Sat Jun 23, 2012 9:45 pm

:D
Got a call yesterday from Haley, she wanted to go fishing. I said OK, and got the boat ready for Saturday morning. We used the Tenkara rod to catch a little 5-spot... which she used as live bait to catch this little catfish.

We didn't have much action with the little Senkso along the shore. The fish were not schooling and chasing shad active enough to keep Haley or me interested.
Again, switching to the Tenkara rod and small flys, we targeted red devils.
She insisted on a picture of this "beautiful" fish...

Haley's first fish using a Tenkara rod... a one pound Red Devil.

On the way in we stopped off at the "Kiddie Pond" to feed the fish. Guess who grabbed a rod and started fishing? Several red devils and a few catfish later...

Haley hooked into this 9 pound catfish. She was using a 12 foot Crappy Rod and 20# test braid. I have no idea how she landed it. I only helped by finally netting the fish... after she strongly insisted that I put the camera down and "get the net...."   After landing that one, I figured we'd enjoyed enough fishing for one day and headed in. Judging by the smile... I think she had fun. I know I sure did.

Good job Grandpa! And that's a great catfish Haley!!!
Caution - Objects in picture are smaller than they appear.

I am genetically predisposed to make fish look bigger than they really are.
