When I saw these three young men fishing, I stopped to ask how they were doing. As you can see by the picture, they were doing great. At first I thought he had a talapia, but after looking at the pictures...I don't think it is. What ever it is, it weighed about 3 pounds and he caught it using bread for bait.
Summer vacation... brings back memories.

wow! i wish it was a giant gourami. i remember seeing, catching and eating those in vietnam! they're good fighters on light tackle and they are omnivorous (eating both plant and animal matter). but i have to disagree, it looks like the young man caught a good-sized tilapia. there are still some large ones around.

I'm pretty sure it is a tilapia, a huge one. The boy on the left is holding a bluegill. I can't tell what the boy in the rear is holding.
That other picture is pretty scary. What species of fish is it and where was it caught?

Check this close up shot... the mouth doesn't look like a talipia to me.??????

He caught it under the south bridge at Lake Wilson.

I have seen a bunch of these fish behind the middle school. I mainy see the under branches and they are usually in groups of 2 and 3. I've thrown lures at em but they seem to be pretty skittish. I'll have to bring some bread next time I go.

I caught one like it 2 weeks ago near the sewage plant. It was only about 1/2 the size of this one but it was same kine. I caught it on a worm and it was schooling with some large red devils. I also caught another one like it from the same school but instead of the dark spots it had rust colored spots all over it. I just thought they were another variation or cross breed of devil.?. Maybe we have a new species of fish thriving in Wilson. LOL. Hey do you think that is possible?

still think it's some type of tilapia, since there are a bunch of different tilapia species here. don't think it's a red devil. it looks like one of the tilapia types that are sold in chinatown.

I'd have to agree with Hitoshe. After a close look it compares most to a species of talapia. Whatever it is, it's a good size catch that made that little man smile. Stan - good job on a great photo moment. Nice shot.
