Andrea and I went to the Conestogo River today on a last minute trip. I woke up early to find rain and wind at 6am...and didn't really feel like driving 2.5 hours to Thames River to fish for carp and redhorse.
I woke up later at 10am and it was just cloudy...wind wasn't as bad as the morning...so I called Andrea and ask him to meet me at 12pm.
Andrea looked for carp while I looked for a greater redhorse. There were neither carp nor redhorse, but I caught a number of common shiners and then these guys...something I may have caught before but never paid much attention. They look very much like common shiners except for the dark stripes on the back that converge to form V's on the back down the mid-line.

$20 of gas to catch a new species of minnow...not too bad I guess...
And the hunt continues. This year, I'll be fishing for more micro species since all the macro "sportfish" had been crossed off, except for Lake Sturgeon and American Eel which are closed to fishing all year.
** Stan, these guys would be fun on the tankara...I still have to save up money for that...but they were not too bad on the 12' float fishing rod...at least it gave the rod a little bend
