For sale: Thomas & Thomas XL2 8-wt?

Postby Ken » Fri Jan 04, 2008 8:51 am

I thought I'd ask some of the board members first before posting it on Ebay.

I bought a Thomas & Thomas 9-foot 8-wt from someone that has extra gear and didn't get to use it at all. The rod is in original plastic wraps and I haven't taken it out to try it yet (everything is pretty much frozen here right now  )

This is a Thomas & Thomas XL2. It is a 9-foot 3-piece 8-weight rod. Each section is 3' long (the butt section is 3' long including the handle and reel seat). It has been discontinued but Thomas & Thomas will continue to honour the lifetime warranty. The warranty card has not been filled in. It has a very nice aluminum rod case as well with cloth rod wraps also.

The rod originally sold for USD $420 online (more at the store in person) before it was discontinued. I'm willing to part with the rod for $250. Shipping and insurance extra.

The only reason I am selling this is that the 3-piece is too long to fit it in my suitcase (I should have measured it before I bought it  ). It makes it inconvenient since I usually bring other rods with me as well in another rod case (which counts as one of my two luguage allowance). So that means, I'll have to have the fly rod as a carry on...but now that security is much tighter, they are not allowing rods to come on the plane even if they are in a case (according to Air Canada).

So I have a huge dilemma...and the easy solution is to sell this one to buy a 4-piece. I hate the decision since the T&T is much nicer than the TFO Professional (or perhaps TiCr) that I plan to get...but it does allow me to bring my spinning, baitcasting and surf rods with me if I can fit the fly rod in the suitcase. :?

If there's any interest, let me know. I can take some pictures tonight and post it up. :D
