A Very Good Day

Postby Stan Wright » Wed Oct 09, 2013 9:36 am

:D

On Tuesday, Chris and Ed (ET from Nervous Water Fly Shop) hit the lake with a box full of newly tied flys to try out.
This is a picture of Chris with one of the larger of the over 100 largemouth and peacock bass they caught. (most were around one pound or less)

SAGE 4wt rod and a 4 pound peacock bass.

Chris normally uses a 5wt fly rod with weight forward floating line (WF-5-F)...
a 6wt rod if the wind is a little stronger.

For spawning fish he likes the SAGE "Smallmouth" rod.

It's shorter and stronger with a heavier weight forward line designed for throwing big bulky wind resistant bass flys.

There are so many little fish ( one pound and under) around at the moment I let him use my little 4wt rod... I haven't seen it since. :(

Put a gold fly on the end of a bubble rig set up and watch out. Get in the right area and you can get one on every cast . They have knocked almost all of the gold flash off of mine. It looks like a set of pink eyes and a couple of strands of gold..... but they still keep biting it !

Hit the trees with only and 8 lb test set up the other day.... bad decision ! Coming back with that 30 lb power pro to settle the score !

Hey Stan, what happen to the medium and large tucs. Do not see as many of those now. Haven't caught a tagged fish in a long time. The fish still bite the same as before but not as many in the schools. Got to work harder finding the fish.

Today the fish were schooling, but only stayed on the surface 2 or 3 seconds. Not long enough to cast at them. We never caught one schooling fish.
Worked the shoreline and got a bunch under a pound. One 3 pound fish.

I haven't seen or heard of any tagged peacock bass being caught.
Some of the tagged largemouth have turned up.
