What Do Tucs Eat?

Postby roadwarriorsvt » Fri Aug 03, 2012 5:52 pm

Darren (forget his screen name) and I hit one of the points near Wilikina Dr. Thurs evening. I caught the first fish, then nothing else! Darrin landed somewhere around 10 or so, losing almost that many near the bank. We conducted a lavage on the fish he landed. Most every one had either shad or remnants of shad in their bellies. The bass I've caught in weeks past have had crawdads they puked up in the livewell. Here are typical results from one of the lavages. Wondering what type of lure to use? This should help you.

:D
As I understand it... peacock bass feed exclusively on smaller fish, so any lure or fly that looks or acts like a little fish should work fine.
Here are a few "shad imitations" that I have been using.
Match the hatch... or in this case, the "shad".
Senko, white, 2 inch.

Keel hook Flys, white craft fur,

Lake Wilson Special, bead head flys, 1 to 1 1/2 inch
