Tuna Catfish in the Lake?

Postby Ahnkochee » Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:18 pm

Just curious, has anyone here ever heard of or better yet caught a Tuna Catfish aka Iridescent Shark (Pangasius hypophthalmus) in Lake Wilson? They have been very popular as an aquarium fish for as long as I can remember (40+ years) here in Hawai'i. According to Wikipedia they are native to the Mekong river basin, and grow to 4 feet in length, and 97 pounds. They are currently being farmed commercially in Vietnam as a food fish and exported to the US market and sold as "Swai" or "Basa". With all the invasives introduced into the Lake over the years I would not be surprised if this one isn't found here too.

Never caught a big one.... but we may have caught some little ones. I remember seeing some channel catfish that just didn't look quite like channel catfish. i'll pay more attention in the future. :D
