Which species have you caught? Red devil or Midas?

Since Red Devils look very similar to Midas Cichlid, I thought it would be interesting to post this up.

I referenced the pictures of "Red Devils" I caught fishing with Stan...and all of them have the thick lips typical of true Red Devils.

Whether there are some Midas in Lake Wilson? Who knows...but keep you eye open for them! :D

I am genetically predisposed to make fish look bigger than they really are.

I've caught a few ciclids very similar to that first pic, just a little more purple on them. Same bar pattern.

When I first started seeing these red fish in Lake Wilson 20+ years ago they were definitely Midas Cichlids with a shorter rounder profile, less pronounced muzzle, and no "juju" lips like the Red Devils have. I had a pet Red Devel in a tank at the time, and they looked quite different. Nowadays what I have caught in the lake look to pull more the Red Devil features. I believe that are a hybrid of the two species mixing over the last 20 years but the Red Devil features becoming more predominant.

The Ones in Ho'omaluhia seem to have have been pure Red Devils from the start. Here's some we caught there a few years back:

Ah...i see. Hope your body is recovering well and the family situation is good. God will watch over you.

I haven't fished in a whole month!!! It is driving me up the walls...kinda like those possessed people you see in the horror movies  I'm trying to take care of family, friends, work, and such...

Hopefully I can make it all up in April. :D
