Late January, My friend and I traveled to Mexico for a bass fishing trip to Anglers Inn at Lake El Salto. We flew to Phoenix and then to Mazatlan in Mexico. From there ,it is in the van and off to the lake. The ride takes a couple of hours. We got to the lodge at 2pm and were out on the lake by 3pm. Why waste time ??
We started of throwing some green lizards in the stick ups. I got a couple of hits, but missed them both. James catches the first fish of the trip... a beautiful 8 pound, 8 ounce beauty. The bass there are Florida large mouth and they are strong and healthy ! That was to be the biggest fish of our trip !
Anglers Inn is located right on the lake. It is the five star bass fishing resort of Mexico. Disneyland for bass fishermen ! They will spoil you with food and service. If all you want to do is eat, sleep, and fish, then this place is heaven ! Every cast could be a monster fish. We fished for five days and caught and released over 300 large mouth bass. The biggest was that first 8-8. We had an 8-2 and some others in the 7 pound range. The biggest fish caught at the lodge while we were there was an 11-2 on a senko.
We tried topwater lures in the morning, but the fish were not in the mood. Just a week or two before we got there, the action was hot and heavy. The fish were starting to transition to the deeper water before the spawn, so they just were not taking much on the top. That was a disappointment for us and our guide Manuel. He has worked the lake for over 20 years and he knows where they should be. We worked hard. Threw lots of lizards and senkos. Mostly dark greens. Learned how to work a Texas rig better. Senkos were my favorite/ wacky style. Every day consisted of five hours in the morning followed by lunch and a siesta ( nap ). They would wake you up at 2 and go out again till dark. Great way to live ! Eat dinner, sleep and do it all again the next day. Dont forget the Pacifico beers and the marguaritas. All you want... Bring your own cigars !
We had the time of our lives. Caught tons of 2 -1/2 to 3 - 1/2 pound fish. Great fighters. Wished that there were more 6-7 pounders, but why complain. Fishing is all about timing I guess. Next trip , maybe a ten pound plus fish ! All I know is, that I will be going back there again. Anybody wants more info, just let me know. This was my second trip there and I love this place. Check out some of my pics.

Believe it or not, I saw a show on espn years ago and wrote down the number. Three years later, I found the number on my desk and called them. They sent me a dvd and I decided to go . At that time, I did not even own a fishing pole. I hadnt fished since I was a kid, but I still loved fishing. I went to their website and saw what lures they suggest you bring. Went to sports authority and mccully bike for a few things and off I went. Didnt bring a pole. They will loan you some, so thats how I got started with this fishing thing. That was Nov of 2006. Did some other kinds of fishing trips since my first visit there, but always knew I would be back. Check out their website. Anglersinn.com or call 1-800 gota-fish. Great place and people !

Congratulations on the great trip! Looks like you had a great time. I've heard of other great lakes there too like Baccarrac, Huites, and Guerrero. Maybe someday....Just need some $$$ For now, I have to stick to Lake Fork, or maybe Falcon this year.
Is it true that somehow, Mexican bass fight harder, more like smallmouth or spots?

Just got this email from Terry...
Subject: Report for you Baccarac Fans
With great pleasure we get to report the following: To our good friend, who for many years has been fishing with us in Mexico and always searching for trophy bass over 10 lbs., today Baccarac was very kind. Hal Clifford, using
Carolina rigged Senkos, caught a 10.0, a 10.3 and an 11.0 fish. All eight
of Gil Wright's group caught over 100 fish per day per boat, with many fish being 4, 5 and 6 lbs., fishing watermelon jigs, medium-running crankbaits, white with a green back. Gil Wright, one of our most accomplished anglers, predicts the big bass bite is about to begin.

Just got this from Keith... he and I fished Mexico last year..... That's the trip where we didn't catch many fish... but they were all big.
Stan
Some friends got back from Lake Baccarac last night. They counted every single bass caught. In six days of fishing, two of them caught over 700 bass! The lake is back to normal.
