8-24-08 What a great day!

Wow, we've never had a day quite like this. We started out this morning around 6:30 am with little action until around 7. There were tons of fish schooling around the main basin most of the morning but they seemed uncatchable. UNTIL we found the really aggressive tucs. Unlike Stan's last post, all our fish except 1 were caught on live bait. Yes, we crossed over to the "dark side". It seemed like the only fish that would strike were the larger aggressive tucs; which is just fine with us. Only 3 fish were around 1 lb. The rest of the 25-30 tucs ranged 2-4 lbs. with 6 hawgs that broke off after some seriously strong runs. Most tucs were caught just off the grass. The only tuc taken on an artificial came on a bluegill swim bait. The red devils were really frisky too. We probably caught 35 devils as well as 2 channel cats. Ran out of bait and headed home around 3PM. What a fun day!

Wow... you guys had a good day. Judging by the background in your pictures... ( I know where you were fishing. ) you covered a lot of ground.
That's a nice part about a belly boat, you can take your time and really fish an area well.
Again, congtatulations on a super day of fishing.

Did you guys fish the whole day in your float tubes? I guessing didn't launch at the ramp. Good thing snapping turtle, and Piranha populations are presently low in the lake. Sounds like a great day, thanks for sharing.

In the last picture, that is the kind of color tucs have when they are guarding fry balls. At least that is what it looks like. Easy to spot.

Yea, we fished all day in our tubes. We thought about stepping out on the points and casting from shore but they seemed to be playing in the grass so we slowly targeted them along the edges. One thing about tube fishing, it forces you to concerntrate more on a spot than fishing while running a trolling motor on a bass boat! But then again...I sure miss fishing from my Ranger on the mainland!!!
