How can the fishing be so bad one day and so good the next day?
John and I went to the lake to take advantage of the spawning red devils.
From the recent fishing reports I'd read and talking to other anglers, I figured we'd be lucky to even catch a few red devils.
We didn't even bother taking any gear for peacock bass....
Turned out to be an action packed, fun filled 3 hours of fishing.
I just knew that I had caught my first "Peach Devil". John was quick to point to the tail and inform me I had captured an Oscar.
Never seen an Oscar this color before.
This is what we were after.... look at the hump on the head of this red devil. We must have landed 11 or 12 of these guys.
Then from out of the blue (well, from a brush pile) came this 1 1/4 pound peacock bass. Talk about fun on a light 4wt fly rod.
Then it was Johns turn again. His little 3wt fly rod looked like a big letter "C".
Aren't these fish pretty with the sunlight behind them.
Another peacock bass. We saw a lot more than we hooked.... and we hooked a lot more than we landed. LOL
Where did the bluegill come from?
I liked this picture because it shows that simple little gold Charlie fly we were catching all the fish on.
Can you believe it, this nice little channel catfish got to the fly before the red devil that John was casting to.
A channel cat on a fly. What a great day on the lake.
