My friend Matt, his gf, and my friend Cuong and I headed out on the ice by 8:30am.
We arrived at our location in 84 feet of water and drilled one hole each. Immediately, we saw fish on our flasher. Fish were following our Williams Ig Jigs in gold/silver colour, but they were not hitting the spoon.
A while later, Cuong had the first fish on and brought up his whitefish. He was using a green/black Bad Boyz jig so all of us quickly changed lures.
We had steady groups of fish coming in looking at our lure and the occassional one to tap at our lures. Once in a while, Cuong would be hooked up again, and Matt landed one, and his gf played a fish that Cuong hooked.
I switched hole with Cuong and even switched rod, reel and lure with him since I was only getting light hits but none to commit. Well...guess what...Cuong jigged my rod for 2 minutes in at my hole and hooked up. Okay...give me back my rod and I'm going to land that fish
Looks a little like a bonefish eh? Fork tail, steamlined-cylindrical body, silvery colouration and that underslung mouth. They don't run as hard as bonefish though.
Cuong got one more fish that he released. Just before we were about to leave, a father and son came by to chat on their way back to shore. They tried for 2 years to catch a whitefish but have not been successful yet. They saw that we had a little luck so they asked if they could fish in our area. No problem...at least they were courteous enough to ask for permission.
So Cuong and I decided to see if we could hook up a fish for the son to land. About 5 min later, I hooked up and handed the rod over for the son to land his fish whitefish. I gave them the fish to keep too.
All in all, it was a great day with good friend and helping out people. Here's the parting shot with everyone's fish to take home.
