Back 15-20 years ago Pongee were common, and considered by some a pest that ruined bass lures or even a menace by some. They were the best tasting freshwater fish in the Lake. The past several trips I have not seen any Pongee.. Are they still around or has pressure from the newer invasive species greatly reduced their numbers?
Where did all the Pongee go?

Pongee
You did answer your own question, they can not compete with the exotics just like the lm bass, puntat, medka, bluegill and crayfish. They all started to dissappear at the same time. Puntat is supposedly great eating too. There are a few of them around just like the bass.
I saw a show about pongee on the National Geograpic station. People actually illegally fly them alive into the mainland from asia to eat!
