Unlike yesterday the fish were going crazy today at around 5 pm. Every cast brought in a fish. As soon as the bait hit you were on. We caught about 60-70 a peice. No one was on the lake but my boat. All 1.5 pound and up to 5.5 pound peacock. I had trouble leaving. At the end I threw a handfull of guppies about 5 feet from the boat and a whole school of Tucs started busting them like crazy. It was like I was feeding them. One of the best days on the lake for sure.

Sounds like a great day, I'll be out Friday and I hope the action keeps up, was this at Morgans Point?

It was at Morgans. I went out today and it was not near as good. Pretty slow.

Where do you guys get your live bait? Do you catch it yourselves or get it from a pet shop or something?

It depends on the day and how lazy I am. You can catch them in the creeks all over the island or go buy feeders at he pet shop.

I went out tuesday morning, was pretty slow, caught a lot of small ones.

Not really to the dark side but to the gray middle. My plans are to get the fish rilled up with live bait first then get em on the flies and or lures. Or maybe just tossing some bait in the water, but I'm not sure if chumming is even legal here, if it is someone please tell me before I break the law. If it is I guess I'll go to the dark side for a bit then go back to force!

These tucs although not very difficult to catch are pretty dang speratic(sp). At least from what I've noticed during the schooling months, I haven't really found any sort of die hard patters that last longer than a day or two. The lures I catch fish with pretty much stay constant year round. But they move so much and from day to day are active at different times from a few hours to almost a 8-12 hours each day. I guess the one thing I know to look for all the are the shad, when I see shad I usually am catching many fish. Man it would be a fun day to have cast net and buckets full of shad!!!! I like to follow the shad around and sometimes I'll try to push them up against the grass where there are tucs and it's almost a instant boil. Too bad that is more difficult than it sounds so I fail a lot.

From what I know of shad, they are very frail. You would have to be very careful on how you capture them. You would have a hard time keeping them alive. You will probably end up with a bucket of dead shad. Maybe you could chum with them. They would be hard to use as bait. I heard that shad caught in brackish to saltwater are very hardy though.

I do not recall any regs against chumming but if you are fishing the hffa tournament I think it is a no-no.

Oh I would definitely not do it during a tournament. Mostly for when I bring some friends out who aren't avid fisherman and have trouble figuring out how to work the lures in a days experience even with coaching . I'm not sure exactly what species of shad are in Wilson but when I lived in Arizona we would get a cast net and catch shad and just keep them in a aerated bucket and they would stay a live. When I lived in California some guys would cruise the lake with big long dip nets in hand looking for shad because the use of cast nets was prohibited.
