Spawning Peacock Bass

The spawn is on... large peacock bass in the 5 to 7 pound range guarding eggs. We were using light fly rods, so didn't want to take a chance on hooking up with something ew couldn't handle. LOL But on one occasion we did. Got it close to the boat and was about to net it when the 6# test tipping broke... estimated weight 6 pounds... She was a huge fish.
Lots of smaller peacock bass in the 1 to 1 ½ pound range... Red Devils were very aggressive. Also caught 5-bar General, tilapia, channel catfish, bluegill, and some some fish I've never seen before. LOL. All on Flys.
It was a fun day. Water temperature was 82 degrees and the water level was up about 4 feet from last weekend... that probably hid a lot of the nesting peacock bass and red devils.
