Sat. June 30, Mix Bag

I went fishing with Clay and Matt today. Looks like the action is picking up. We caught fish on lures and live bait. even saw a few schooling peacock bass. I had to leave at noon so I don't know how they did in the afternoon. Water is still high, about 3 feet below the spillway. The red devils were showing up more and more aggressive. Where we found red devils, we also found peacock bass.

That first fish looks like a red devil crossed with a convict...is that even possible? Probably not. It's neat looking either way. It's kinda crazy how many strange fish there are at Lake Wilson. Thinking about it maybe it's a green terror, not sure if they get that big though.

I called Clay and he said they did better Saturday afternoon after I left. Lots of small peacock bass 1/2 to 1 1/2 pound size. More action on Sunday. Lots of little tukes and red devils.... Nothing exotic though.

The first fish is a color variant of the red devil. I think that that color pattern is their natural coloring and they are only red because of selective breeding.

Makes sense, I guess that's why there are so many multicolored Red Devils.

I have relatives who are aquarists, and they have taught me all about the different types of fish color variants. In fact they have a snow white red devil that looks very nice.
