Two days in a row fishing with tournament quality bass anglers. Wes and his dad Bob are ranked 1 and 2 in their bass club tournament standings. I am blessed.
It took every trick in their fishing book to get any thing to cooperate today. They used every lure in my tacklebox, some I didn't even know I had. The few small peacock bass we saw would make a single, half hearted chase, and then disappear. Not the wild charge of 4 or 5 fish fighting over the lure like we saw last week. These little guys were not at all aggressive. If you didn't get a hook up on the first strike, you didn't get a second chance.
We did see a very few red devils, Bob hooked one on a plastic worm. Where we found the RD, there were some of the larger fish around. But like the little guys, they were not interested in eating anything. I don't know which is harder...... seeing the fish and not catching them, or not seeing and not catching them?????
Like yesterday, it was a great day of fishing, but the catching was a little on the slow side.
Aloha,
Stan
Dad got the first fish of the day, his first peacock bass.
Wes caught this nice bluegill on a Senko. Bluegill might not be a big deal to most of you guys, but this is only 1 of 3 I've seen this year. Our state record is only 8 ounces. This one is close to being a contender.
Bob with his first (and only) red devil.
Wes got the "big" fish of the day, his first ever peacock bass. Love that coconut hat.
