July 4th report.... Dark Side / Schooling Fish / Bread

Happy 4th of July. We celebrated by hitting the lake with the normal assortment of dark side treats for our friends. The fish were in a very hungry mood ! And the schooling fish were busting on the shad all over. At times, they were pretty close to the shore. I decided to bomb the bust with big tilapias. And boy, did it work. Two cast in a row.... two nice largemouths. The larger was almost three pounds. It was fun to just bomb them out there and watch the line tighten and take off to the deep. And the tucs were hanging out just off the points. Great day to be on the lake ! Introduced a young fisherman at the ramp to the dark side. He was using bread before I got there. Bread is for sandwiches I told him.
I hooked his bait and threw it out with his bobber..... and ten seconds later he had the second fish of his life. I showed him how to take it off the hook and he posed for pics . Reload and repeat .... one minute later that bobber went under again. Fish number three and counting. And I am pretty sure he will be leaving the bread at home next time ! And I am thinking about getting some bobbers !

The older the boys…
The more expensive the toys.
Note the size of the lures compared to the size of the beer bottles and water bottle… bigger.

That is Dave " Boogie D" Elgas. He is the guy I went to Christmas Island with. If you look closely, you can see me in the background. We were on the pancake reef where we got some huge GT ( ulua ). I am in one of the other pics as well, but theses are all old pics from my first and only trip there. But if you are thinking about going to Christmas Island, give Boogie a call. He has great prices... and his guides will put you on the fish of a lifetime..... every day ! PM me if you want more info........

I believe the fishing is better now than it was back in 1982 when I made my first trip.
But… I'll leave those Big GT to you younger guys.

Ooh thought you had gone for round 2 with the GTs. Thanks Xmas Isle is def a bucket list item and as Stan mentioned I prob need to get there sooner than later as I aint getting younger.
I just got back from my first Alaska trip, and highly recommend Anchor Point lodge, as lots of locals know its run by a transplanted Hawaiian and Dean and his family have lots of Aloh aand take great care of you. They cater to us locals and in addition to salmon and halibut they know how to fish for butterfish. See you on the water. :)
