After the "Line Testing"

Postby Stan Wright » Tue Sep 10, 2013 5:55 pm

:D
After the testing of all the different fly lines, I decided to try a
little fishing. I selected a fly line and fly for each Tenkara,
dropped the electric motor and started along Keemoo Island.

First fish was a largemouth bass on a bluegill popper.

There were lots of 5-bar general. They hide in the shallow
water to avoid being eaten by the peacock bass.

This is one of the largest bluegill I've seen at the lake in a
long time. There were others and they were aggressive.

I hooked a peacock bass that looked to go 2 pounds.
It broke the 4# test leader as I was trying to net it. I saw
other larger peacock bass, but was able to avoid them.
This is more the size peacock bass I was catching. They were
all over the place and very aggressive on streamer flys
and bluegill popping bugs.

There were some nice size red devils around...
I found enough to have some fun.

Around 4:00 PM I drifted over into the shade along the
shore and started breaking down the rods and packing up.
I saw movement in the shallow water... it was a carp.
I grabbed the Ayu rod rigged with a #12 gold Crazy Charlie,
and made my cast. I would cast the fly, and the carp would turn...
in the other direction. After about 12 casts, it sucked up the fly
and then headed for deep water. Lucky me... I chased after
it with the electric motor. In deep water with no stumps or
brush to tangle in I just let the full bend of the Tenkara rod
tire the fish. Finally it lay on it's side and I scooped it up with
the dip net... 3 and 1/4 pounds. Now that boys and girls,
is the way to end a fishing trip.

This is one of the few times I ever tried using the
Self Timer on my camera.
